PIC:  Pule Mmodi

Kaizer Chiefs make a return to the Nedbank Cup final for the first time since 2019 as they take on Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in the decider at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on May 10.
They have not lifted the trophy in 12 years, and will be hoping to end that drought in what will be a fascinating final.

Here are some of the key numbers behind the Soweto club’s impressive campaign to date.

Most minutes

360 – Goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma is the only player to feature in every minute for Chiefs so far in the 2025 Nedbank Cup campaign. Not far behind is leading scorer Pule Mmodi, who has played 341 minutes to date. They are the only players to have started every match for the AmaKhosi in their run to the final.

Top scorer

4 – Mmodi leads the scoring charts for not only his club, but also the entire Nedbank Cup competition this season. His four goals is level with Pirates’ Tshegofatso Mabasa and those two will be in a straight shootout for the Golden Boot in the final in Durban. The only other Chiefs player to score more than once in the 2025 campaign is centre-back Inacio Miguel. Five other players have a single goal.

Most substitute appearances

3 – George Matlou and Mdu Shabalala have both made three substitute appearances from Chiefs’ four games, making them the most used options off the bench. Matlou has one start, but 21-year-old Shabalala has always been used as an impact player in the competition.

Oldest and youngest players used

34 – Playmaker Gaston Sirino is reaching veteran status these days and was 34 years, 1 month and 23 days when he featured for Chiefs in their semifinal win over his old club Mamelodi Sundowns. Despite his age, he remains a key player for the AmaKhosi and is a former scorer in the Nedbank Cup final when Sundowns lifted the trophy in 2020.

19 – Mfundo Vilakazi is the youngest player used by Chiefs in this year’s competition and was 19 years, 2 months and 7 days when he featured against Free Agents in the Last 32. He is having his breakthrough season in the Premier Soccer League this campaign.

Team goals scored

12 – Chiefs have scored 12 goals in their four ties to date. They beat third-tier Free Agents (4-0), Chippa United (3-0), Stellenbosch FC (3-1) and Sundowns (2-1). It is the most goals scored by any side in the competition this year.

Team goals conceded

2 – Chiefs have conceded just twice this season, keeping two clean sheets. It is the fewest goals conceded by any of the sides that reached the semifinal stage.

Disciplinary

8 yellows – Chiefs have had eight bookings in this year’s competition, but only Thabo Cele has two yellows. Sirino, Dean Solomons, Mmodi, Given Msimango, Samkelo Zwane and Glody Lilepo are the other players into the referees’ book.
